[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the 18th, the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), which was implemented for the first time with the integration of humanities and sciences, made it difficult for test-takers to predict their grades based on their provisional scores. This is because, with Korean and Mathematics subjects conducted under a system of common and elective subjects, the standard scores can vary depending on the elective subject chosen, even if the raw scores are the same.

The final standard scores are calculated for all test-takers in each area after adjusting elective subject scores using the common subject scores. Therefore, students will have difficulty accurately understanding their standing until they receive their CSAT score reports on December 10.

Major admissions companies predicted and released the cutoff scores for each area as raw score ranges, unlike previous years. For the Korean language area, the first-grade cutoff for students who chose Speech and Composition was predicted as follows: Jongro Academy 85 points, Uway 84 points, Megastudy 84?100 points, Etoos 84?85 points; for those who chose Language and Media, Jongro Academy 85 points, Uway 82 points, Megastudy 82?100 points, Etoos 82?84 points.

The second-grade cutoff for Korean was estimated as follows: for Speech and Composition, Jongro Academy 79 points, Uway 76 points, Megastudy 77?84 points, Etoos 77?78 points; for Language and Media, Jongro Academy 77 points, Uway 74 points, Megastudy 74?81 points, Etoos 75?78 points.

For the Mathematics area, the first-grade cutoff for students who chose Probability and Statistics was predicted as: Jongro Academy 86 points, Uway 87 points, Megastudy 87?100 points, Etoos 83?84 points. For Calculus, the first-grade cutoff was Jongro Academy 84 points, Uway 82 points, Megastudy 82?100 points, Etoos 79?80 points; for Geometry, Jongro Academy 85 points, Uway 84 points, Megastudy 85?100 points, Etoos 81 points.

The second-grade cutoff for Mathematics was predicted as follows: for Probability and Statistics, Jongro Academy 78 points, Uway 78 points, Megastudy 79?87 points, Etoos 72 points; for Calculus, Jongro Academy 76 points, Uway 74 points, Megastudy 76?82 points, Etoos 68?69 points; for Geometry, Jongro Academy 77 points, Uway 76 points, Megastudy 77?85 points, Etoos 70 points.

With the introduction of elective subjects and the difficulty of predicting grades based solely on provisional scores, students should aim to participate in as many early admission essay and interview exams as possible and adopt a strategy of broadening their range of universities for regular admissions.

Kim Changmook, a college admissions counselor at Kyungshin High School and member of the Korea Council for University Education's College Admissions Counseling Teachers Group, advised, "Since it has become difficult to predict grades and standard scores, students should verify their objective scores through 2 to 3 provisional scoring services." He added, "Students should make more conservative judgments based on provisional scores to decide whether to participate in early admission university-specific exams." Kim also emphasized, "For regular admissions, it is necessary to look broadly at universities to apply to and calculate university-specific converted scores to find possible universities to apply to."
