[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province held a performance report meeting on the 18th at the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization conference room in Jangan-gu, Suwon, to review the results and significance of this year's 'Regional Specialized MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) Project.'
Earlier, through a public contest for the 'Gyeonggi Province Regional Specialized MICE Project,' which discovers and fosters international conferences related to promising or specialized local industries, three projects were selected: the Goyang International Destination Competitiveness Forum (August 25-26), the Seongnam International Medical Tourism Convention (September 9-11), and the Suwon World Heritage City Forum (September 24-25).
MICE refers to the tourism industry encompassing meetings, incentive tourism, conventions, exhibitions, and events.
The province supported successful event operations by providing funding after receiving advice through a dedicated consulting group composed of private and academic experts, who offered guidance in three stages: pre-event, on-site, and post-event.
Choi Yong-hoon, Director of Tourism at the province, emphasized, "As social uncertainties increase and MICE event formats diversify, it is important to foster MICE events that use region-based industries as content. This is the competitiveness of the region and also the competitiveness of South Korea's MICE industry. From next year, we will contribute more actively to strengthening Gyeonggi Province's MICE competitiveness by independently discovering competitive native MICE events."
Meanwhile, 'Nano Korea (KINTEX)' and 'Ansan Korea Materials Surface Technology Conference,' which were previously selected as part of the Gyeonggi Province Regional Specialized MICE Project, were selected this year for the K-Convention organized by the Korea Tourism Organization.
