Yeongsangang Cheong, Agreement on Air Pollution Reduction with Total Quantity Management Facilities

Yeongsangang Cheong, Agreement on Air Pollution Reduction with Total Quantity Management Facilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office (Director Ryu Yeon-gi) announced on the 17th that it has signed a ‘Voluntary Agreement to Reduce Air Pollutants’ with LG Chem Yeosu Plant (Hwachi) and nine total emission management sites located in the southern region.

A voluntary agreement refers to the effort made voluntarily by total emission management sites to emit less air pollutants (NOx, SOx, TSP) than the allocated total allowable emissions,

This agreement was promoted in recognition that improving air quality in the southern region is a responsibility that the government and businesses must jointly strive for in order to achieve ‘public happiness’ and ‘environmental welfare,’ and to actively cooperate with each other.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Director of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, representatives from nine business sites including Hanwha Energy Co., Ltd. Yeosu Plant, and other guests.

The voluntary agreement participants will establish annual reduction targets and implementation plans, and will carry out reduction efforts to emit less than 95% of the total allowable emissions of air pollutants annually by the final year of the agreement (‘22),

The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office will continuously discover and provide incentives for the business sites, such as financial support and commendations for exemplary cases.

Director Ryu Yeon-gi of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office said, "The voluntary agreement business sites are expected to reduce nitrogen oxides by 1,360 tons, sulfur oxides by 2,959 tons, and dust by 7 tons over the next two years," adding, "The total emission management system for improving air quality in the southern region is expected to be gradually strengthened, and we hope that the voluntary agreement business sites will continue to actively participate in the government’s air environment improvement policies in a leading role."
