Jeongeup-si, Daesang Co., Ltd., and Korea Climate Change Research Institute Join Hands to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Jeongeup-si, Daesang Co., Ltd., and Korea Climate Change Research Institute Join Hands to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk, Daesang Corporation, and the Korea Climate Change Research Institute have joined hands to achieve 'Jeongeup City 2050 Carbon Neutrality' and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Jeongeup City, Daesang Corporation (hereinafter Daesang), and the Korea Climate Change Research Institute announced on the 17th that they signed a business agreement for social contribution projects aimed at achieving mid- to long-term carbon neutrality in Jeongeup City, strengthening competitiveness through low-carbonization in the agricultural sector, and realizing social value.

This agreement was prepared with the intention of converting Daesang's existing social contribution projects into projects that can secure carbon emission rights by linking the three organizations.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop, Daesang CEO Lim Jeong-bae, and Korea Climate Change Research Institute President Kim Sang-won signed the 'Social Contribution Project Business Agreement for Greenhouse Gas Reduction in the Agricultural Sector' on the day, agreeing to cooperate mutually to reduce greenhouse gases and realize energy welfare, including the re-donation project of carbon emission rights (KOC) profits.

According to the agreement, the three organizations plan to form and operate a working council responsible for the project direction and development plans to enhance the efficiency of project implementation.

Daesang will invest 200 million KRW to support two facility horticulture farms with energy-saving facilities, specifically air-source heat pumps.

An air-source heat pump is an eco-friendly heat production system that converts air heat and unused energy resources into practical energy.

It has the advantage of not requiring the combustion process of fossil fuels, thus eliminating risks of safety accidents such as fires or explosions and sources of pollution.

Daesang focuses on these advantages, securing the reduced greenhouse gases as carbon emission rights, and plans to use the secured emission rights as project funds to improve rural living conditions in the future.

The city plans to actively support administrative and institutional matters for supervising the beneficiary farms and registering external projects.

The Korea Climate Change Research Institute will support the suitability review for registering the beneficiary farms as external projects and assist with administrative procedures for external project registration.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "Climate change caused by global warming is a significant risk factor for agriculture," adding, "With today's agreement as an opportunity, we will spare no administrative and institutional support to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector, including the distribution of eco-friendly materials and encouraging farmers' efforts to reduce greenhouse gases."
