[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Korea Intellectual Property Research Institute (President Seungwoo Son) announced on the 8th that it will hold the "Intellectual Property Policy Forum: Issues and Tasks of Data Law," co-hosted with the Korea Data Law Society and Chung-Ang University Industrial Security Research Center, on the 19th.
This policy forum, held under the theme "Issues and Tasks of Data Law," was organized to review related issues and share opinions amid the acceleration of digital transformation due to COVID-19 and the emergence of intellectual property that needs new protection, such as artificial intelligence (AI) creations, data, hologram trademarks, and virtual designs.
The forum is divided into four parts. First, in Part 1, "The Significance and System of Data Law," Professor Chunsu Yang of Yeungnam University will begin with "The Formation and Differentiation of Data Law," followed by Professor Youngjun Kwon of Seoul National University presenting "The Legal Principles of Data Attribution, Protection, and Transaction," and Professor Jiwon Seon of Kwangwoon University discussing "Exploration of Data Sharing and Legal Issues."
The theme of Part 2 is "Utilization and Transaction of Data." Attorney Woongwoo Shin of Jipyung Law Firm will explain "The Use of Pseudonymized Information and the Principle of Purpose Consistency," and Professor Sangjoong Kim of Korea University will present on "Data Transactions and Open Markets." Then, Attorney Kwangbae Park of Kwangjang Law Firm will discuss "The Potential for Efficient Use of the Data Combination System," followed by Professor Changhwa Kim of Hanbat National University and Director In Heo of the Korea Intellectual Property Research Institute presenting on "Intellectual Property and Data Protection and Exemption."
Part 3 addresses "Individual Issues of Data Law." Associate Research Fellow Wonjun Jeong of the Korea Legislation Research Institute will present "The Paradox of Consent Regulation and Measures for Substantialization." Professor Wankyu Jang of Yongin University of Arts and Sciences will discuss "Data and Cybersecurity," Attorney Juho Yoon of Bae, Kim & Lee LLC will present on "The Institutionalization and Implications of Personal Information Portability and MyData," and Attorney Sunggu Jeong of Kim & Chang Law Office will discuss "Regulations and Issues Regarding the Use and Protection of Financial Transaction Information."
In the final comprehensive discussion, Professor Seongyeop Lee of Korea University, the president of the society, will moderate a discussion on "A Review of the 2021 Data Law Issues and Future Development." Attorney Taeun Koo of Lynn Law Firm, CEO Jonghyun Kim of Blockchain Labs, Data Planning Officer Ilkwon Bae of the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee, AI Policy Officer Kyunghui Song of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Personal Information Protection Policy Officer Byungnam Lee of the Personal Information Protection Commission are scheduled to participate as expert panelists.
