The Samsung Happiness Awards were established in 2013 to encourage women and organizations who have contributed to the advancement of women’s rights and status, social welfare, as well as women and organizations who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in specialized fields such as academia and the arts, individuals, families, and organizations who have practiced or promoted filial piety, and youth, aiming to realize a happy society where people live together harmoniously.

Chairperson Jang received the Women’s Leadership Award. She said, “I hope women’s studies can establish a new foundation where both women and men can achieve mutual growth and happiness,” adding, “I want to receive the Samsung Happiness Award together with all women scholars and express my gratitude to the senior professors who have developed women’s studies.”

The Family Harmony Award was given to Kim Il-ju (83) from Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk Province. He emphasized, “No matter how well children do, they can never fully repay their parents’ grace,” and “I believe the essence of filial piety is to make one’s parents happy.”
