eBay Korea's Big Smile Day Spending Increases... Purchase Price per Customer Up 7% At 'Big Smile Day,' the largest year-round shopping festival hosted by Gmarket, Auction, and G9, the average purchase amount per customer significantly increased compared to last year.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] eBay Korea announced on the 8th that the average purchase amount per customer during 'Big Smile Day,' the largest year-round shopping festival held by Gmarket, Auction, and G9, significantly increased compared to last year.


Analyzing the average purchase amount per customer immediately after the Big Smile Day event from the 1st to the 4th, it was found to have increased by an average of 7% compared to last year's event.


Relatively high-priced products were more popular. In the case of PCs and monitors, the average purchase amount per customer increased by 56% compared to the previous year, showing the highest growth rate. This means that if customers purchased products worth 1 million KRW last year, they added products worth 1.56 million KRW to their carts this year. Additionally, premium products were notably sought after in expensive categories such as seasonal home appliances (26%), audio devices (21%), and video appliances (20%).


Essential daily items also saw an increase in average purchase amount per customer. Body and hair care products (21%), daily necessities (12%), and processed foods (9%) are representative examples. The average purchase amount for fashion and accessories also increased, reflecting the optimistic sentiment due to the With Corona phase.


A Gmarket official stated, “It seems that the largest-ever scale and strong benefits, along with innovative special live broadcasts, Starbucks lounges, dance challenges, and various other events planned in line with the recovering consumer sentiment amid With Corona, have drawn positive responses. We plan to continue this momentum in the second week by releasing a large number of special-priced products.”
