[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City will conduct on-site demonstrations of public services and food delivery using drones.

The city announced on the 4th that it will hold drone demonstration service on-site demonstrations on the 4th and 5th of this month, following the demonstration on the 27th of last month.

The on-site demonstrations are conducted in five areas to verify the safety of drone services, check drone performance improvements, and assess the feasibility of practical application.

First, on the 27th of last month at Hangul Park, the city demonstrated the ‘Urban Wind Forest Path Growth Monitoring Service’ and ‘Illegal Outdoor Advertising Monitoring’ service, where drones recognize and analyze weather conditions and plant growth status as three-dimensional information.

On the 4th, at the 5-1 Residential Zone construction site, a ‘Construction Site Safety Management Service’ will be demonstrated, where drones recognize construction workers' safety equipment and movement paths to assist real-time safety management.

Also on the same day, at Geumgang Riverside Park, the ‘Smart City Integrated Delivery Service’ will be demonstrated, where an outdoor robot receives food loaded on a drone and delivers it to the location of the orderer, from Geumgang Riverside Park to Central Park.

On the 5th, near Central Park on the adjacent road, a demonstration of the ‘Road Environment Service based on Artificial Intelligence Analysis Solution’ will be conducted, where drones recognize and analyze road hazards such as potholes through road environment analysis.

After completing the on-site demonstration, the city plans to evaluate the outcomes of the demonstration city construction project through expert consultations, workshops, and evaluations by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by the end of this year, and establish plans to activate Sejong-type drone services.

The drone service activation plan will include development plans such as advancing drone demonstrations and expanding drone-utilized public services, in addition to new demonstration tasks planned for next year. Through this, the city intends to further advance the drone demonstration project by verifying commercialization plans for drone services during the drone special zone designation period.

Meanwhile, Sejong was designated as a ‘Drone Special Free Zone’ by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in July and was also selected for the ‘2021 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project.’

Accordingly, the city is currently promoting seven demonstration projects, including six demonstration tasks and one infrastructure installation task.

Yang Won-chang, Director of the Economic Business Bureau of the city, said, “Sejong will pilot various drone business models on-site in line with the government’s drone industry promotion policy. Through this, we will actively foster the drone industry by improving drone performance and attracting related companies.”
