Dobong-gu, First Nationwide Real Estate Comprehensive Study System Migration to Linux Server

Dobong-gu's Recent Server Trend: Transitioning from Mid-Size Unix to Smaller x86 Linux Servers Due to Cost Advantage of 10-20 Million Won Compared to Mid-Size Unix Servers Priced in the Mid-100 Million Won Range

Dobong-gu, First Nationwide Real Estate Comprehensive Study System Migration to Linux Server

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) completed the transition of the real estate comprehensive registry system server, operated by the district, to a Linux server last month, marking the first such change nationwide, and launched the new server service.

The real estate comprehensive registry system provides cadastral registry and real estate comprehensive registry data to local governments and related organizations, enabling real-time sharing of real estate information and electronic management and operation. It offers comprehensive information related to cadastral maps and registries.

Dobong-gu stated that the recent trend in servers is shifting from mid-sized Unix servers to small x86 Linux servers. Considering that Unix servers cost in the mid-100 million KRW range, while x86 Linux servers are priced between 10 to 20 million KRW, the district decided to proceed with this replacement.

Accordingly, since March, the district began the server migration process, moving the real estate comprehensive registry system from the existing mid-sized Unix server costing 140 million KRW to a small x86 Linux server costing 18 million KRW. This also significantly reduced server maintenance costs, which are typically set at 8% of the server acquisition cost.

As a result of this replacement, Dobong-gu became the first local government in the country to provide the real estate comprehensive registry system service using an x86 Linux server. While some districts used Linux for database servers and Unix for AP servers, Dobong-gu is the first to operate both database and AP servers on small x86 Linux servers.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “Although this change may not be visible or directly felt, I believe it is a valuable case of saving taxpayers’ money through management innovation. As the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced plans to domestically produce real estate comprehensive registry software, I hope our successful migration to a small x86 Linux server will have a positive influence on other local governments and serve as a catalyst to reduce server maintenance budgets nationwide.”
