[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Comedian Shin Giru (real name Kim Hyun-jung, 40) revealed her advertising rates on her social networking service (SNS). It is unusual for a celebrity to disclose their SNS advertising rates.
In the video titled "Shin Giru's Meat Restaurant - Pork Ribs Specialty 1" uploaded on IBK Industrial Bank's YouTube channel on the 29th of last month, Shin Giru spoke with a self-employed person running a meat restaurant in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, saying, "I will post your (restaurant) on SNS."
She then revealed the detailed rates, saying, "I usually charge 2 million won, but I won't charge this time," and "Posting once on the feed is 2 million won, and a live broadcast is 5 million won."
On that day, Shin Giru discussed the damage caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with the business owner. The meat restaurant owner lamented, "Sales have dropped to one-third," adding, "Sales from July to September 2019 were 30 million won, but this year (for the same period) it dropped to 10 million won. Now it has decreased by about half."
When Shin Giru asked, "How much are the employees' salaries currently overdue?" the owner replied, "They are overdue by 2 to 3 months," and "The rent for the restaurant is also overdue by 7 to 8 months. I feel like crying."
In response, Shin Giru said, "It must be hard for the owner who can't pay and also hard for the uncles (employees) who can't receive their pay," adding, "I feel like I am going to get indigestion."
Shin Giru, who operates a private Instagram account, has secured 32,500 followers as of the 3rd.
Meanwhile, netizens reacted to Shin Giru's disclosure of her SNS advertising rates with comments such as, "She earns a month's salary just by posting one photo," "I like her honesty," "It's better to be confident than to shamelessly lie about 'buying with my own money' after receiving money behind the scenes," "Now I understand why celebrities' SNS are flooded with advertisements," and "I wonder how much those with more followers get paid?"
