[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province launched a 'smart app' service on the 3rd to guide convenience facilities such as disabled restrooms and elevators for mobility-impaired individuals, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.
The convenience facility guide smart app was developed in 2019 and is an expanded version of the Gyeonggi Province convenience facility smart app, which only provided information on convenience facilities.
Using location-based services, users can search for nearby convenience facilities such as disabled parking spaces, disabled restrooms, infant care stations, nursing rooms, elevators, and ramps based on their location.
It also provides directions to the searched convenience facilities by linking with map apps. Voice recognition is available to enhance convenience for people with mobility difficulties, such as those with disabilities. Photos are also attached for the elderly who may find it difficult to locate facilities using only the smart app map.
Notably, during the smart app development process, 40 field survey personnel composed of people with disabilities from city and county offices directly visited and surveyed the facilities, contributing to the creation of a photo database and other data. Additionally, if there are facilities not yet reflected in the smart app, users can directly register them, enabling two-way communication between administrators and users.
The convenience facility guide smart app can be downloaded by anyone by searching for 'Gyeonggi-do Convenience Facility Guide' in the App Store or Play Store.
At the commemorative event held in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on the day, Bang Jae-yul, Chair of the Health and Welfare Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, said, "Thank you for your efforts in developing the app, and all health and welfare committee members will continue to work to improve the quality of life for mobility-impaired individuals, including people with disabilities."
Moon Jeong-hee, Director of the Provincial Welfare Bureau, emphasized, "We will strive to operate and manage the app in the future and actively work to expand it into a nationwide project. Gyeonggi Province will also take the lead in promoting the human rights of people with disabilities."
