[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Jeong Ji-seok (27, Korean Air), a domestic male volleyball player who was accused by his ex-girlfriend of assault, property damage, and illegal filming, has been sent to the prosecution, but the illegal filming charge was not recognized. This was because Jeong Ji-seok was unable to unlock his phone, preventing the police from verifying the evidence.

On the 31st, the Suwon Southern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they recently applied assault and property damage charges against Jeong Ji-seok and referred the case to the prosecution. However, they are reportedly conducting additional investigations under supplementary investigation orders.

Regarding the illegal filming charge, a decision was made not to prosecute. The police attempted digital forensics to check for illegal filming materials on Jeong Ji-seok’s iPhone but failed because they could not unlock it.

It was also reported that Jeong Ji-seok himself could not unlock his iPhone during this process. A police official explained, "Jeong Ji-seok could not recall the phone password, so we could not verify evidence to prove the charge." According to a KBS report, Jeong Ji-seok denied all related charges, explaining, "It has been about six months since my ex-girlfriend A took the phone, so I forgot the password."

The allegations surrounding Jeong Ji-seok first surfaced on the 1st of last month when A posted several photos and a lengthy post on Instagram. The photos included a phone with a shattered screen, a man presumed to be Jeong Ji-seok kneeling, and scenes of a phone camera installed inside a house.

A wrote, "If you were accused, you should reflect first, but he only admits to breaking my phone and denies assault and installing hidden cameras, which is ridiculous," adding, "He even threw me down and cursed in front of his friends, and now he shamelessly denies everything. He has no conscience."

She continued, "When I reported it, he denied that the camera was installed for sexual purposes," and questioned, "I didn’t do anything to be accused, so why did he kneel and try to stop me?"

Meanwhile, Jeong Ji-seok, the star attacker of the Korean Air team in the professional men’s volleyball league, led his team to their first integrated championship in the 2020-2021 V-League regular season by ranking 6th in scoring, 1st in attack success rate, and 2nd in serves. He swept the regular season and championship MVP awards as well as the Best 7 honors.

Jeong Ji-seok is currently absent from team training. It has been revealed that he has not participated in a single game in the regular season that started this month.
