[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The first trial of comedian Park Suhong's lawsuit seeking 11.6 billion won in damages against his older brother and sister-in-law was held on the afternoon of the 29th but concluded in just five minutes. The next trial is expected to take place after the prosecution's investigation determines the exact amount of damages.
At the first hearing held by the 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Byungsam Lee), Park's side requested the court to "proceed with the trial after the criminal complaint investigation results specify the exact amount of damages."
The defendants did not raise any objections. The court decided to set the date for the next trial after the prosecution's investigation into the complaint is completed.
Park's side had previously revealed that his older brother and sister-in-law embezzled his appearance fees over 30 years. In April, Park filed a criminal complaint against them at the Seoul Western District Court for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. In June, he also filed a civil lawsuit.
No Jong-eon, a lawyer from Law Firm S representing Park, said, "Since the civil and criminal lawsuits were filed, the older brother's side has never attempted to contact us for a settlement," adding, "The evidence is clear, so it is expected to be difficult to refute the embezzlement allegations."
