[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The prosecution has requested the same prison sentence as the original trial for Hwang Hana (33), who is accused of using drugs again during her probation period.
On the 28th, at Hwang's sentencing hearing held at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appeal Division 1-1 (Presiding Judge Seong Ji-ho), the prosecution asked the court to sentence her to 2 years and 6 months in prison and impose a fine of 500,000 won, the same as the original sentence.
The prosecution stated, "The first trial recognized all other drug use as guilty except for the drug use on August 22 last year, which was acquitted. Considering the same grounds for guilt and the video footage taken at the time, this part should also be recognized as guilty."
They added, "What stands out from the defendant's investigation is her effort to defend the current situation. In the first trial of the previous case, the defendant denied the crime but confessed later and promised not to reoffend, yet shortly after, she committed the crime in this case."
At the appeal trial, Hwang said, "I was scared of the media and felt sorry for my family, so I did not have the courage to tell the truth," and regarding the reason for full-body hair removal the day before appearing at the prosecution, she said, "I had a reservation, but honestly, I did it because there was a possibility that drugs could be detected from hair samples."
Reading her written final statement, Hwang said, "I am sincerely ashamed and remorseful for being judged by the law once again for any reason," and "I am truly sorry for the points not acknowledged in the first trial."
