[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A man in his 30s who carried out a scam involving hundreds of thousands of won on a secondhand trading site was sentenced to prison.
On the 28th, according to the legal community, the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 8 (Chief Judge Park Sang-soo) sentenced A (33) to one year in prison on charges of fraud and intimidation. He was also ordered to compensate three victims who suffered damages a total of 216,000 won.
A was tried on charges of deceiving dozens of people on a secondhand trading site from April to July by promising to send goods after receiving money first, thereby illegally gaining about 930,000 won.
Additionally, when some of the victims posted warnings about the scam, A could not control his anger and sent threatening messages saying, "I have leaked your personal information, so I won't leave you alone."
A, who had no steady job, is known to have committed these crimes to cover living expenses.
The court stated, "He confessed to all the crimes and is reflecting on his wrongdoing, and the total amount of damage is not very large, which are favorable circumstances."
However, the court added, "He caused fraud damage to multiple victims and even sent threatening messages to some, which is a serious offense. Moreover, he has multiple prior convictions for similar crimes and continued to commit offenses during the probation period without remorse, and the damages have not been recovered at all," explaining the reasons for sentencing.
