Crown Haitai Hosts World's Largest Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Exhibition of 300 Sculpture Pieces This Year
Plan to Exhibit 1,000 Korean Sculptures Next Year

Crown Haitai Hosts World's Largest Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Citizens are viewing sculpture artworks at Hangang Park.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The world's largest outdoor sculpture exhibition will be held at the Han River in Seoul.

Crown Haitai Confectionery announced on the 28th that, with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, it will hold an outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring Korea's representative sculptors for 45 days starting from the 29th. A total of 300 sculptures will be installed at three Han River parks with good accessibility in the city: Yeouido, Ttukseom, and Banpo. Considering that the Bondi Beach Coastal Sculpture Exhibition (111 pieces) held in Sydney, Australia in 2019 was the previous largest record, this is an unprecedented mega outdoor sculpture exhibition worldwide.

The significance is also special. It is the first signal to introduce the beauty of Korean sculpture to the world. Companies and artists have joined hands to embark on the full-scale globalization of Korean sculpture.

The goal of this exhibition is to successfully enter the '2022 UK Frieze,' one of the world's top three art fairs, which will be held in Korea for the first time next year. During the Frieze period next year, the scale will be increased more than threefold compared to this year. More than 1,000 sculptures will be exhibited at 10 Han River parks. Through this, they aspire to open a full-fledged journey for Korean sculpture to enter the global stage.

The theme of the exhibition is 'Pungnyu Sanchaek (Jogging&Joy).' A total of 289 mid-career sculptors including Jeon Gang-ok, Min Seong-ho, Choi Eun-jung, and Kim Seong-bok will participate, showcasing about 300 large-scale works. The colorful works gathered from across the country will be exhibited by theme at Yeouido, Banpo, and Ttukseom Han River parks. The theme of Yeouido Han River Park is 'Passion and Joy,' where 73 lively works including Park Min-seop's 'Endurance' will be displayed.

At Banpo Han River Park, themed 'Balance and Restraint,' 101 works including Choi Won-seok's 'Sumbisori' and Kim Won-geun's 'Man and Woman' will be unveiled. Ttukseom Han River Park, with the theme 'Vitality and Vision,' will present 128 works conveying messages of hope, such as Choi Seung-ae's 'Star 2021' and Jeong Chun-il's 'Let's Run.'

Yoon Young-dal, Chairman of Crown Haitai Confectionery, said, "This exhibition will be a driving force presenting a new future for Korean sculpture," and added, "We hope it will be an opportunity for Korean sculpture to lead the global sculpture market in the future."
