[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The campaign team of Yoon Seok-yeol, former Prosecutor General and presidential candidate of the People Power Party, on the 27th dismissed the allegations of attempted proxy voting raised by Assemblyman Hong Joon-pyo’s camp as ‘slander.’

The head of Yoon’s campaign election committee stated in a joint statement, "Hong’s camp today, on the 27th, reported to the Central Election Commission, distorting a routine voting method notification text sent by the Suwon Party Committee Chairman in Gyeonggi Province, who supports former Prosecutor General Yoon, as if it were a scheme for election fraud."

They argued, "The voting method notification text saying ‘If those who have difficulty with text voting contact us, we will assist’ was falsely portrayed as a plan for ‘organized proxy voting.’ If they had actually planned proxy voting, who would be foolish enough to do it through a ‘public voting guidance text’ sent to all party members?" They added, "What is the intention of Hong’s camp in knowingly distorting this routine voting method notification text as proxy voting and fraudulent voting and reporting it to the Central Election Commission?"

Regarding the manner in which the issue was raised, they said, "Although the problem could have been sufficiently resolved through the party’s election commission, why was it reported to the Central Election Commission and brought outside the party?" and "It cannot be helped but to suspect that this is an attempt to disrupt the party primary by turning it into a Democratic Party-style internal strife and Lee Jae-myung-style slander campaign, creating an excuse to reject the primary results."

They also urged, "Hong must not forget that he is a member of the People Power Party, not the Democratic Party," and "We hope he keeps in mind that the people will never tolerate actions that hinder regime change for his own political gain."
