Delivery to Korean Legal Information System, etc... Discussion on Development Plans for Asian Legal Administration
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 27th at 2 p.m., the Ministry of Government Legislation held the 9th Asia Legal Experts Meeting (ALES) at the JW Marriott Hotel Seoul in Seocho-gu, Seoul, under the theme "Current Status of Legal Administration and Exchange Cooperation Measures in Asian Countries." Legal experts from six countries including Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan gathered to present exemplary cases of legal administration and discuss improvement measures for the development of the legal field.
In his opening remarks, Lee Kang-seop, Minister of Government Legislation, said, "Legal administration is the cornerstone for the successful implementation of national policies and the foundation of social development," adding, "As the saying goes, 'If we go together, we can go further,' I hope this meeting will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among Asian countries and create better legislation."
Following Minister Lee's opening remarks, welcoming remarks were given by Kim Gye-hong, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute; Le Thanh Long, Minister of Justice of Vietnam; congratulatory remarks by Hong Jang-pyo, President of the Korea Development Institute (KDI); and a keynote speech by Professor Ko Hak-su of Seoul National University School of Law. Professor Ko introduced data protection and artificial intelligence (AI)-related legislation in the Republic of Korea and Asia, emphasizing the need for legislative improvements to prepare for future society.
The meeting was divided into two sessions. In the first session, under the theme "Current Status and Development Direction of Legal Administration in the Republic of Korea and Asian Countries," cases of Korea's Framework Act on Administrative Procedures and legal information systems were shared. The legal systems and legislative procedures of Vietnam and Indonesia were also introduced. The second session focused on "Exchange and Cooperation Measures for the Joint Development of Legal Administration in Asia," featuring presentations and discussions.
Since 2013, the Ministry of Government Legislation has held annual legal expert meetings with Asian countries. It continues to expand legal exchanges to strengthen networks with Asian countries and solve common legal issues.
