[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Domestic and international scholars gather in one place to share the latest knowledge on community research against urban disasters such as COVID-19.
According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority on the 27th, a special lecture hosted by the University of Utah Asia Campus and co-organized by UNESCO and Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, will be held on the 29th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon to mark the '5th UNESCO Learning Cities International Conference.'
The lecture will focus on community participation and efforts to respond to various urban disasters, including infectious diseases like COVID-19, under the theme of "Strengthening Regional Community Resilience through Lifelong Learning Systems."
Starting with a welcome address by David Achoarena, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, four experts?Professor Kim Hwanyong of Hanyang University, Professor Rajib Shaw of Keio University in Japan, Divya Chandrashekar, and Professor Ibis Garcia of the University of Utah in the United States?will each share their research topics and expertise.
Following this, a panel discussion will be conducted by Professors Reazul Hasan and Alberto Gonzalez, urban planning professors at the University of Utah Asia Campus.
To attend the lecture, which will be held both online and offline, prior registration is required on the Yeonsu-gu Office Learning City website.
Meanwhile, the University of Utah Asia Campus will participate in the World Citizen Lifelong Learning Expo and operate a dedicated booth at the Songdo Convensia exhibition hall. Students will introduce Incheon Songdo and the University of Utah to visitors under the theme "Borderless Urban Planning."
The University of Utah Asia Campus is an extended campus of the University of Utah, a research-focused university ranked in the top 100 globally (selected by the global university ranking agency QS) with a 170-year history. It opened in 2014 in the Songdo International City of the Incheon Free Economic Zone.
The University of Utah Asia Campus offers seven undergraduate majors including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Psychology, Communication, Film and Media Studies, Urban Planning, and Construction and Environmental Engineering, as well as six minors including Game Studies, Strategic Communication, Documentary Studies, Leadership, Psychology, and Urban Planning. It also operates master's programs in Public Health and Biomedical Informatics.
