Establishment of 'Safety and Health Management Office' Directly Under CEO of Dongbu Construction... Executive Director Oh Suchan Appointed as Head

On the 27th, Dongbu Construction announced that it has established a new 'Safety and Health Management Office' directly under the CEO to strengthen its safety and health management system capabilities, appointing Executive Director Oh Su-chan as the head of the office.

Executive Director Oh Su-chan, head of the Safety and Health Management Office, joined Dongbu Construction in 1997 and has served as the HSE team leader. He is an expert well-versed in the field of safety and health, holding qualifications such as Construction Safety Engineer, KOSHA-MS auditor, and ISO 45001 auditor.

The unusual non-regular one-point executive personnel appointment and organizational restructuring by Dongbu Construction is evaluated as reflecting the CEO's strong will to eradicate accidents.

In addition to establishing the Safety and Health Management Office, Dongbu Construction has renamed all meetings chaired by the CEO as 'Safety and Health Management Meetings' to make decisions on safety and health management issues, challenges, and improvements.

Furthermore, the company has established and is operating a system to ensure safety and health, including setting site safety and health organization deployment standards that exceed the Industrial Safety and Health Act (San-an-beop) requirements, preemptive execution of safety and health expenses with allowance for budget overruns, declaration of workers' right to stop work, and Sunday site shutdowns.

Inspections and support to identify and eliminate gaps in site safety and health management implementation are also being strengthened. The Safety and Health Management Office has increased its inspection team with former construction and civil engineering site managers, safety officers from each business division conduct inspections and support, Dongbu Construction’s Technology Research Institute performs technical safety inspections, and monthly site safety inspections are conducted under the CEO and management’s leadership. This establishes a four-layer safety and health inspection and support system at headquarters to provide solutions for accident prevention at sites.
