[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The film "Romance Without Love," which blends the theme of romance starting without dating and witty dialogues about love and desire, is set to be released next month.
On the morning of the 27th, at the online press conference for the film "Romance Without Love" (directed by Jung Ga-young), Jeon Jong-seo said, "I was attracted by the unconventional setting and bold, cheeky dialogues."
"Romance Without Love" is a film about Ja-young (Jeon Jong-seo), who hates dating but hates loneliness even more, and Woo-ri (Son Seok-gu), whose work and love life never go as planned. It depicts a romance that begins with hiding names, reasons, and feelings. The film cleverly captures the dating perspectives of men and women these days.
Actor Jeon Jong-seo plays the 29-year-old Ja-young, who has emotionally retired from dating but cannot endure loneliness, while Son Seok-gu plays the 33-year-old Woo-ri, who often ends up being taken advantage of in both work and love.
On this day, Jeon Jong-seo said, "I decided to appear because I was attracted to the unconventional script and boldness." Regarding her role, which is honest yet delicate, she empathized, saying, "Ja-young sometimes acts tough because of past wounds, and in some ways, she resembles me."
Son Seok-gu, who recently gained attention for his impressive acting in the Netflix series "D.P.," said, "I usually think a lot when choosing projects, but this was the first time I decided to appear right after reading the script." He added, "(The director) writes in a bold way," and said the script was fun.
Son Seok-gu emphasized that the film realistically portrays modern dating and relationships. He said, "It's an honest work that reflects reality as it is. I wondered if it was okay to be this honest," and appealed, "150% relatable to reality."
He recalled, "The character is 32 years old, but I am 40. I struggled emotionally," and added, "My early thirties were similar." A fan of romantic comedies, he laughed, saying, "The role didn’t quite fit me."
Director Jung Ga-young, who sent a love call to Jeon Jong-seo and Son Seok-gu, said, "I was captivated by their powerful acting in 'Burning' and 'Call,' so I sent them the script. I was happy they agreed at once." She continued, "Many people around me say Son Seok-gu is sexy. When I met him in person, he was charismatic and playful. I felt that side of him matched the work," revealing the casting background.
"Romance Without Love" will be released in November.
