Gyeonggi-do to Transition to Acting Governor Oh Byeong-kwon Leadership on the 26th Oh Byung-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province, is presiding over an emergency weekly policy coordination meeting on the 26th.


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province transitioned to the acting governor system under Oh Byeong-kwon on the 26th. This followed Governor Lee Jae-myung's resignation on the same day to run in next year's presidential election.


According to Article 111 of the Local Autonomy Act, the province announced that from 0:00 on the 26th, Oh Byeong-kwon, the first deputy governor for administration, began his duties as acting governor of Gyeonggi Province.


As his first official schedule on the day, Acting Governor Oh paid respects at the Hyeonchungtap Memorial at 7:30 a.m. and then participated in the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting for COVID-19. Following this, he presided over a meeting with deputy heads of cities and counties, urging full efforts to end the COVID crisis through cooperation between the province and local governments so that residents can promptly return to normal life.


After attending the "Policy Forum for Strengthening Local Autonomy" held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, he visited the council chairman's office and other locations. In the afternoon, he held an emergency weekly policy coordination meeting to receive reports on current issues from various departments.


At this meeting, Acting Governor Oh stated, "I feel a heavy responsibility in taking on the important role of acting governor at this critical time when we must overcome the chaos of the fourth wave of COVID and revive the livelihood economy through a swift phased recovery of daily life. The major policy tasks that Gyeonggi Province has been pursuing will continue without interruption."


He added, "The center of administration must be the field. Since caring for the livelihood and safety of residents is the primary mission of administration, we will build a field-centered administrative system. Also, we will strengthen communication and cooperation systems with related organizations including the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, local community groups, and cities and counties."


After the weekly policy coordination meeting, Acting Governor Oh immediately visited the 14th Gyeonggi Province Residential Treatment Center located in the dormitory of Gyeonggi University in Suwon to inspect the situation on site and encourage the staff.
