Korea Photonics Technology Institute Receives Presidential Group Commendation on 'Measurement Day'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Korea Photonics Technology Institute (President Shin Yong-jin) announced on the 26th that it received the Presidential Group Commendation at the ceremony commemorating the ‘51st Measurement Day’ hosted by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The ‘Measurement Day’ event, held annually on October 26, commemorates the day (October 26, 1446) when King Sejong established the measurement system by creating the original measurement standards for length and volume, the ‘Ja’, ‘Mal’, and ‘Dwe’, and awards commendations to organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the measurement and metrology industry.

The Korea Photonics Technology Institute, the only ‘Photonics Convergence Technology Specialized Research Institute’ in Korea, was recognized for its significant contributions to the development of the domestic measurement and metrology industry by developing measurement technologies and products based on photonics technology, creating import substitution effects through commercialization support, and contributing to companies’ market entry and sales improvement as a KOLAS testing, calibration, and inspection institution in photonics-related fields.

In particular, the Korea Photonics Technology Institute has focused its capabilities on developing ▲ optical sensors (optical fiber sensor technology for safety diagnosis, high-speed laser sensor technology, photoacoustic sensor-based viscosity measurement devices) ▲ lighting (the nation’s first vehicle-mounted light pollution high-speed luminance measurement system, proposals for flexible OLED performance requirements) ▲ optical medical and bio (the world’s first drug screening system using microLED, development of a 3D high-speed retinal optical coherence tomography device) ▲ optical components (VCSEL light source technology for LiDAR, full-color microLED technology), thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the public in a safe and convenient manner.

Shin Yong-jin, President of the Korea Photonics Technology Institute, said, “Receiving the Presidential Group Commendation this time is the result of all executives and employees working together diligently on R&D and corporate support for the development of related industries such as LED, optical communication, and optical sensors,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to help our companies expand globally through technology development of new photonics convergence products, establishment of technical standards, and measurement support.”
