Complete Ban on Parking and Stopping in Children's Protection Zones

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] With the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Act, all school zones will have a complete ban on vehicle stopping and parking, even if they are not designated as no stopping or parking zones.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on the 26th, until now, even in school zones, legal stopping and parking were allowed if the area was not separately designated as a no stopping or parking zone.

However, from the 21st, with the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Act, all school zones prohibit vehicle stopping and parking regardless of designation as no stopping or parking zones.

This enforcement, along with the strengthened penalties for illegal stopping and parking within school zones implemented since May 11, is expected to contribute to preventing child traffic accidents caused by drivers' obstructed visibility due to stopped or parked vehicles.

However, at points designated by the city or provincial police chief with safety signs as locations for children’s boarding and alighting, stopping and parking will be allowed within specified times for children’s boarding and alighting.

Accordingly, the Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee, the Office of Education, local governments, and related agencies will jointly conduct on-site inspections and collect opinions to select permitted boarding and alighting points, install traffic safety facilities, and ensure the prompt establishment of the revised measures.

A representative of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency said, “With the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Act, we ask for the public’s great interest and cooperation in preventing child traffic accidents,” and added, “For the safety of children, we request active participation from citizens in complying with traffic regulations.”
