Suncheon-si Breaks Ground on Shindae Library Construction... A Complex Cultural Space of 'Nature in the City'

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 26th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Suncheon City Shindae Library the day before.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon City, officials, and local residents attended, celebrating the official start of the Shindae Library construction with a pre-ceremony performance and a groundbreaking event.

The 'Shindae Library,' scheduled for completion in December next year, is being built on a 18,742㎡ site with a total project cost of approximately 18 billion KRW (7.2 billion KRW from the national government and 10.8 billion KRW from the city), consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors with a total floor area of 5,642㎡.

The main facilities will include a general materials room, Suncheon personages materials room, a small theater, auditorium, maker space, writer's room, and expression activity room.

The Shindae Library is designed as a complex cultural space to expand the lacking cultural infrastructure in the new downtown area and provide a foundation for reading activities, with the concept of "nature within the city" where anyone can come comfortably as if taking a walk.

An official from the city said, "We are pleased to begin the construction of the Shindae Library, which will contribute to the cultural development of Suncheon City," and added, "We will do our best to ensure the safe construction of the Shindae Library so that it can become a space for communication and relaxation for citizens."
