Gyeonggi-do Expands 'MICE Alliance' to Tourism Industry... Recruiting Over 40 Locations

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is expanding the MICE public-private consultative body, 'MICE Alliance,' to include the tourism industry. MICE refers to a convergence industry centered on corporate meetings, conventions, and exhibitions.

On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it is recruiting tourism businesses to participate in the 'Gyeonggi Tourism & MICE Alliance.'

The province plans to operate the alliance on a scale of 150 companies by adding about 40 tourism businesses to the existing 110 MICE Alliance members.

Participants in the MICE Alliance will receive benefits such as ▲ holding regular meetings in the first and second half of the year and ad hoc meetings to discuss cooperation ▲ support for overseas promotional marketing and joint development of Gyeonggi tourism products ▲ continuous communication among members through online community channels ▲ sharing of Gyeonggi Province tourism policies and announcements as needed ▲ and online and offline capacity-building lectures.

The recruitment target includes tourism businesses under the Tourism Promotion Act regardless of location, provided they have attracted an average of over 1,000 foreign visitors annually in the past three years, excluding the COVID-19 period.

However, lodging businesses, which have a significant effect on the local economy, only need to have the capacity to accommodate foreigners regardless of performance, and if it aligns with the purpose of revitalizing Gyeonggi tourism, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will strategically select participants.

Choi Yong-hoon, Director of the Tourism Division of the province, said, "Through active cooperation between the public and private sectors, we will create opportunities for Gyeonggi tourism to make a leap forward in preparation for an increase in foreign tourists after COVID-19." He emphasized, "Going forward, Gyeonggi Province will actively cooperate with the industry and continue to provide generous support through the Gyeonggi Tourism & MICE Alliance."
