[AKyung Poll] Daejangdong Special Prosecutor, 6 out of 10 Koreans "Support"

On the 26th, Asia Economy commissioned Win-Gi Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response) targeting 1,024 voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 23rd to 24th. In response to the question, "What do you think about promoting a special prosecutor investigation into the Seongnam Daejang-dong development project?" 64.0% of respondents answered, "I support the promotion of a special prosecutor."


Those who answered "I oppose the promotion of a special prosecutor" accounted for only 27.1%. "Don't know" was 8.9%.


Support for the special prosecutor was higher than opposition across all age groups, with the highest support among those in their 20s and 30s at 71.7% and 71.0%, respectively. This was followed by those aged 60 and over (67.2%), 50s (62.2%), and 40s (48.0%).


By region, support for the special prosecutor was strongest in Seoul (71.5%). This was followed by Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (69.0%), Daegu and Gyeongbuk (67.4%), and Gyeonggi and Incheon (63.1%).


Support and opposition for the special prosecutor also varied by political party affiliation. Among supporters of the People Power Party, 92.2% expressed support for the special prosecutor, while among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea, 55.5% opposed the special prosecutor. Only 36.8% of Democratic Party supporters said they supported the special prosecutor.


This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-Gi Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 23rd to 24th, with 1,024 respondents and an overall response rate of 6.6%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
