Gyeongbuk Sangju City in Dried Persimmon Season, 'Astringent Persimmon' Auction and Purchase in Full Swing... Auction Volume Up 20%

Gyeongbuk Sangju City in Dried Persimmon Season, 'Astringent Persimmon' Auction and Purchase in Full Swing... Auction Volume Up 20% The dried persimmon auction market in Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk is bustling.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Sangju, Gyeongbuk, known as the city of dried persimmons, is currently busy with the harvest of astringent persimmons and making dried persimmons.

The astringent persimmon auction house and purchasing centers are filled with auction boxes full of persimmons and vehicles waiting their turn for purchase.

Sangju Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative and Nammun Fruit Wholesale Market started the astringent persimmon auction on the 11th, and Sangju Dried Persimmon Distribution Center and Sangju Agricultural Cooperative began purchasing and auctioning astringent persimmons from the 15th.

Due to irregular weather conditions such as late monsoons this year, it was expected that the auction volume would decrease due to increased fruit drop, but on the 24th, 285,579 boxes were recorded based on 20kg boxes.

This is about a 20% increase compared to 238,504 boxes during the same period last year. The average price was somewhat higher at 44,000 KRW per 20kg box compared to 41,000 KRW the previous year.

Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju visited about 40 dried persimmon farms and auction and purchasing centers to encourage workers and farmers.

Mayor Kang said, “I thank the farmers who worked hard for the harvest despite difficult conditions such as COVID-19 and adverse weather, and Sangju City will also make further efforts for the development of the dried persimmon industry.”
