[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced that it held the awards ceremony for the "25th LH University Student Housing Architecture Competition," conducted in June, on the 26th at the LH headquarters located in Jinju City.

The "LH University Student Housing Architecture Competition," the largest contest in the multi-family housing sector since 1995, held its 25th edition in June under the theme "Empathetic Housing: Co-living - Sharing, Symbiosis, and a New Culture of Empathetic Living." Professor Song Kyuman of Hongik University participated as the overall coordinator, and three architects active in academia and practice conducted a three-stage judging process to enhance fairness and professionalism.

This year’s competition saw participation from 196 teams representing 68 universities nationwide. Through the final evaluation, a total of 20 works were selected as awardees, including one Grand Prize, one Gold Prize, one Silver Prize, two Bronze Prizes, and fifteen Encouragement Awards.

The Grand Prize-winning project, "Room in Room," by Kim Yuyeun and Park Seongjeon (Ajou University), proposed a residential space for children aging out of protective care. The project selected the former LH Chungbuk Regional Headquarters site (located in Sugok 1-dong, Cheongju City, Chungbuk) as the construction site, enabling learning support effects through linkage with nearby educational spaces, and anticipated mentoring connections through co-living with nearby university students.

A scholarship and a plaque were awarded to the winning teams, and teams receiving Bronze Prize or higher were granted additional rewards and bonus points such as exemption from document screening when applying for LH employment.

LH plans to exhibit the award-winning works on the first floor of its headquarters (19 Chungui-ro, Jinju City, Gyeongsangnam-do) from the 27th through the 1st of next month, open to the public. An online exhibition via the website will also be held concurrently.

Kim Hyunjun, President of LH, stated, "This competition provided an opportunity to view communal living from a fresh perspective," adding, "LH will continue to lead new housing cultures through the ‘University Student Housing Architecture Competition’ and support the continuous growth of outstanding talents in the future architecture field."
