Minister Jeong Eui-yong to Hold 'Korea-Russia Foreign Ministers Meeting' in Russia on the 27th

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 26th, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong departed for Russia and will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the 27th (local time) regarding the North Korean nuclear issue and other Korean Peninsula matters.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 26th, Minister Chung and Minister Lavrov are expected to comprehensively discuss bilateral relations, Korean Peninsula issues, ways to enhance practical cooperation, and regional and international issues during the Korea-Russia Foreign Ministers' meeting held in Moscow.


Attention is focused on what message the foreign ministers of Korea and Russia will deliver at this Korea-Russia Foreign Ministers' meeting, amid ongoing sequential consultations among related countries to resume the Korean Peninsula dialogue process.


So far, Russia has maintained its stance of playing an active role in related matters concerning the Korean Peninsula issue, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.


Meanwhile, after the foreign ministers' meeting, the two ministers will have an official luncheon and jointly attend the closing ceremony of the 'Year of Korea-Russia Mutual Exchange' in the afternoon of the same day.


The two countries, which established diplomatic relations on September 30, 1990, declared last year, the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, as the Year of Mutual Exchange and planned various cultural events, but due to COVID-19, they were unable to properly hold them and extended the period until this year.
