'Boxing Legend' Jang Jeong-gu Sent to Prosecution on Taxi Driver Assault Charges

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Jang Jung-gu (58), the World Boxing Council (WBC) Light Flyweight champion, who is accused of assaulting a taxi driver, has been handed over to the prosecution.


On the morning of the 25th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they applied charges of assaulting a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (Special Act) against Jang and transferred the case.


Jang is accused of assaulting a taxi driver while getting out of a taxi intoxicated around 9 p.m. last August.


Jang won the WBC Light Flyweight title in 1983 and successfully defended it until 1988. In 2009, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) as the first Korean.
