[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The prosecution, investigating allegations of preferential treatment and lobbying in the Daejang-dong development project, summoned and is currently questioning the daughter of former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who worked at Hwacheon Daeyu, on the 25th.
According to the legal community, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon) summoned Ms. Park, the daughter of former special prosecutor Park, as a witness around 1 p.m. on the same day and is conducting an investigation.
The prosecution is reportedly questioning Ms. Park about the background of her employment at Hwacheon Daeyu and the circumstances under which she was allocated an apartment owned by Hwacheon Daeyu.
Ms. Park joined Hwacheon Daeyu in June 2015 and worked there until recently; she is currently undergoing the retirement pay settlement process.
In June, Ms. Park purchased one apartment (84㎡) that Hwacheon Daeyu had allocated. The original sale price was in the 700 million to 800 million KRW range, but the current market price is known to exceed 1.5 billion KRW.
The side of former special prosecutor Park maintains that she purchased one of the remaining apartment units and denies any preferential treatment.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has previously confirmed suspicious financial transactions between a sales agent related to former special prosecutor Park and Park himself and is investigating the matter. The prosecution suspects that this money could be a bribe given by Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, to former special prosecutor Park.
