[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, will jointly respond with local foreign communities to infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and disaster situations.
On the 25th, Gimhae City announced that it signed a business agreement to jointly respond to infectious diseases and disaster situations with nine local foreign communities, including Uzbekistan, Vietnam, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, following the Cambodian and Myanmar communities.
The foreign communities encourage their nationals to participate in COVID-19 vaccination through SNS and provide interpretation support services.
Recently, Gimhae City faced difficulties in quarantine as many COVID-19 cases were confirmed among foreigners. The number of foreigners, including registered foreigners and overseas Koreans with foreign nationality, reaches about 25,000.
It is one of the local governments with a large number of resident foreigners nationwide. Most foreigners work in local small and medium-sized enterprises or are international students. Gimhae City plans to pursue an agreement with Arab foreign communities next year.
Im Ju-taek, Director of the Citizen Welfare Bureau, said, "We ask for active cooperation through an organic relationship between the city and foreign communities in various disaster situations beyond COVID-19, and our city plans to continue providing support."
