[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 25th that Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju City personally attended and viewed the closing exhibition of the ‘7th Royal Culture Festival 2021,’ which opened on the 15th.

The Royal Culture Festival is the largest cultural heritage festival in Korea, held against the backdrop of the five grand palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, Gyeonghuigung), Jongmyo Shrine, and Sajikdan Altar, which are representative cultural heritages of the Republic of Korea.

The autumn event of the Royal Culture Festival, themed ‘The Eight Provinces’ Scenery Coming to the Palace, Daedong Art Map,’ was held at Gyeongbokgung Palace until the 24th.

Representative cultural contents from seven cities nationwide were featured together at the palace, including Jinju’s ‘Silk Wish Lanterns,’ and invited guests from Wonju City (Hanji paper), Icheon City (ceramics), Naju City (natural dyeing), Damyang County (bamboo), Jeju City (natural ecology), and Boseong County (green tea).

The Silk Wish Lanterns were exhibited in a tunnel form about 28 meters long with over 1,500 lanterns next to the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion pond inside Gyeongbokgung Palace, welcoming visitors. The Silk Wish Lantern tunnel, installed under the theme ‘Heart-fluttering at the Palace, Resting at the Palace,’ became a hot spot popular among visitors.

Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju City said, “I am grateful to the officials who beautifully expressed the beauty of Jinju silk, and I am very pleased to see couples and families smiling brightly and taking photos.” He added, “We will strive to creatively fuse the silk industry, a local specialized industry, with culture to revitalize the silk industry.”
