Ministry of Science and ICT: "KT Outage, Confirming Full Recovery... 'Caution' Alert Issued"

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that it has issued an information and communication accident crisis alert at the 'Caution' level at 11:56 AM due to a disruption in KT's wired and wireless internet services.

Earlier, around 11:20 AM on the 25th, a nationwide outage and delay occurred in KT's wired and wireless services, and service restoration was reported by KT around 12:45 PM.

The Ministry of Science and ICT, following the information and communication accident crisis management manual, has formed the 'Broadcasting and Telecommunications Disaster Response Situation Room' with the Information Security Network Policy Officer as the situation room chief to verify whether full restoration has been achieved.

Regarding the cause of the incident, various possibilities such as system errors and cyberattacks are being considered, and an in-depth investigation is being conducted together with relevant experts. Additionally, KT has been instructed to investigate the status of user damages. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to prepare follow-up measures, including recurrence prevention plans, after investigating the cause of the incident.
