[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated regarding President Moon Jae-in's scheduled meeting with Pope Francis on the 29th, "We hope this will be an opportunity to have broad discussions about the Korean Peninsula peace process and to share wisdom for promoting peace."


On the 25th, Lee Jong-joo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, responded to reporters' questions about the significance of President Moon's visit to the Vatican on the day before the opening of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit held in Rome, Italy.


Earlier, the Blue House announced that President Moon would visit Rome, Italy; Glasgow, United Kingdom; and Budapest, Hungary from the 28th of this month to the 5th of next month for a 7-night, 9-day schedule, during which he will officially visit the Vatican.


Regarding the role of Minister Lee In-young, who is accompanying the Vatican visit, it was stated, "As the minister in charge of inter-Korean relations, he will support this visit to serve as an opportunity to promote peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "If the Pope's visit to the North is realized, it will greatly contribute to building peace on the Korean Peninsula."
