[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, held a press conference on the 25th at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, announcing his mid-term resignation from the governorship.


In his farewell speech that day, the candidate listed the achievements he had made as governor of Gyeonggi Province and said, "Believing in the love for democracy and community shown by the residents and the power of collective intelligence, I will step down from the governorship and run as the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate in the 20th presidential election." He emphasized, "Just as Gyeonggi Province has become the standard for Korea, I will make Korea the standard for the world."
