Daejeon City Opens Small Business Big Data to the Private Sector

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City will disclose big data collected through surveys conducted on local small business owners to the private sector.

According to the city on the 25th, the big data was derived by conducting a full survey of 100,000 local small business owners in connection with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Public Data New Deal project. Seventy youth interns visited small business owners for on-site surveys or conducted surveys via phone.

The survey data secured through this process amounts to about 31,000 cases, allowing a comprehensive view of the actual conditions of small business owners, including their age, location type, business status, industry changes, and considerations when starting or operating a business.

In particular, the city plans to additionally develop an Open API (Open Application Programmer Interface) that enables users to create applications and services directly using the small business owner big data, and open it on the Daejeon City Big Data Policy Support System and the Public Data Portal by the end of the year.

An Open API is a type of program opened externally to allow an unspecified number of users to easily develop and utilize applications.

Through this, the city expects to assist not only existing small business owners and companies in management support but also startups preparing to enter the market with entrepreneurship support.

Myeong No-chung, Director of the Science and Industry Bureau of the city, said, “The small business owner big data will be meaningful information for small business owners considering industry changes, startups, and management improvements,” adding, “We will strive to enable citizens and companies to create new business models and establish data-driven scientific economic policies through big data.”
