Apple TV+ lands in Korea on the 4th via SKB... Shared by 6 people for 6,500 KRW per month

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Apple is partnering with SK Broadband to launch its own online video service (OTT) 'Apple TV Plus (+)' and Apple TV service in South Korea. They will also offer the subscription plan 'Apple One,' which allows users to access all their subscription services at once.


Apple announced on the 25th that Apple TV+ will be launched in South Korea on the 4th of next month. The services Apple is introducing include ▲Apple TV app ▲OTT 'Apple TV+' ▲set-top box 'Apple TV 4K.' Apple plans to provide Apple Original series and movies through the Apple TV app and Apple TV 4K.


On the Apple TV app, users can receive personalized content recommendations for popular video apps and streaming services such as Wavve, Watcha, Btv, and Disney+. Content produced by domestic studios like CJ ENM, Lotte, Showbox, NEW Contents Panda, Megabox, as well as American studios such as Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Paramount, Sony, MGM, and Lionsgate, will also be recommended.


With Apple TV 4K, Apple is collaborating with SK Telecom to provide SK Broadband’s IPTV service. New and existing SK Broadband subscribers can use Apple TV 4K as their default set-top box and access B tv’s live TV content, video-on-demand (VOD) movies, and programs.


The monthly subscription fee for Apple TV+ is 6,500 KRW, and the price of the Apple TV 4K set-top box is 239,000 KRW. Apple TV+ can be viewed through the Apple TV app installed on Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad, as well as on some smart TVs and gaming consoles. Up to six family members can share an Apple TV+ subscription. Those who purchased a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV after September 17th will also receive a three-month free trial.


To coincide with the launch, Apple will also introduce the first Korean-language original series on Apple TV+, ‘Dr. Brain.’ Directed by Kim Ji-woon and starring actor Lee Sun-kyun, Dr. Brain is a sci-fi thriller. Additionally, Apple TV+ will offer various original content such as ‘Ted Lasso,’ starring and executive produced by Jason Sudeikis, and ‘The Morning Show,’ starring and executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.


Apple will also introduce 'Apple One' in South Korea, a subscription plan that allows users to access all Apple subscription services including Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+ in one package. The individual plan, which includes 50GB of iCloud+ storage, is offered at 14,900 KRW per month, while the family plan, which includes 200GB of iCloud+ storage, is available for 20,900 KRW per month.
