[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] CJ Logistics announced on the 25th that it has been selected as the top-tier group in the '2021 UN Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI)' global index announced by the UN Economic and Social Council's special consultative status organization, the 'UN SDGs Association.' The company is the only one in the logistics industry to be selected as a top-tier group, standing shoulder to shoulder with global companies such as Apple, Tesla, and Amazon.

SDGBI is an international ESG evaluation index based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, organized by the UN SDGs Association, and introduced at the Economic and Social Council and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The SDGBI evaluation measures corporate performance on a 100-point scale based on 48 indicators across 12 items in four areas: social, environmental, economic, and institutional.

This year, the evaluation was conducted on 3,000 global companies worldwide, with 303 companies included in the global index. Based on scores, companies are categorized into first-tier, top-tier, excellent, and upper groups.

CJ Logistics received particularly high evaluations in the social and environmental sectors. To create jobs for vulnerable employment groups, CJ Logistics continues to promote courier co-prosperity job projects such as ‘Blue Delivery,’ involving people with disabilities, and ‘Orange Delivery’ for women with career interruptions.

To respond to climate change, CJ Logistics joined the Ministry of Environment’s ‘2030 Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition 100’ initiative last May and plans to convert a total of about 1,600 vehicles, including freight trucks and company passenger cars, to electric and hydrogen vehicles by 2030. The company is also focusing on carbon reduction through plastic upcycling projects and the development of eco-friendly packaging. They have commercialized 2,000 eco-friendly uniforms made from yarn upcycled from waste PET bottles and 300 pallets made from recycled plastic at logistics sites.

Along with clients such as Lock&Lock and Twosome Place, CJ Logistics is jointly promoting various projects to reduce carbon emissions through the ‘Carbon ZERO Solution.’ Eco-friendly logistics materials, including eco-friendly cooling containers and automatic one-touch packaging boxes, are also being continuously developed and are planned to be gradually introduced on-site starting in 2022.

A CJ Logistics official said, "This achievement is very meaningful as it shows that our ESG management efforts have been highly evaluated not only domestically but also globally," adding, "We plan to continue ESG management activities that create virtuous cycle values and lead global ESG management going forward."
