Training for 22 Indonesian National Secretariat and National Archives Management Experts
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Archives of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Presidential Archives announced on the 25th that they will provide online training on presidential records management experience to 22 records management experts from the Indonesian State Secretariat and National Archives from the 26th to November 3rd. This training was prepared in response to Indonesia's request for training on the enactment of Korea's Presidential Records Act in 2019 and the development and operation of the presidential records production and management system.
Recently, the Indonesian government has been carrying out public administration reforms aimed at "building clean, effective, democratic, and trusted governance." Last year, as one of the functions of the State Secretariat, the management of presidential records was included and the establishment of a director-level organization was codified. In particular, guidelines for the classification, disposition, and management of presidential records have been prepared, and organizational restructuring and personnel reinforcement are being promoted.
This presidential records management course is designed to focus on cultivating practical knowledge and improving problem-solving skills for each records management process, tailored to the status of Indonesia's presidential records management system. The training covers understanding Korea's presidential records management system, practical work for each presidential records management process, utilization and services of presidential records, country-specific reporting, and action plans.
The training is organized mainly around examining Korea's records management system and the meaning and importance of presidential records management within it, covering detailed processes such as transfer, arrangement and registration, preservation, and services of presidential records. Education on records management cases of presidential records producing agencies and the establishment of records production systems will also be conducted, with facility tours and practical subjects replaced by video content.
Additionally, the enactment of the Presidential Records Act and the process of improving awareness of presidential records management are structured as discussion-based education courses to share cases from Korea and Indonesia and discuss development plans.
Shim Seong-bo, Director of the Presidential Archives, said, "I hope this training will contribute to establishing Indonesia's presidential records management system," and added, "Let us cooperate for the common goal of managing presidential records in the future." Choi Jae-hee, Director of the National Archives, said, "Transparent and thorough records management is the foundation of trusted governance and democracy. I hope our country's experience will help advance records management in Indonesia through this training," and added, "We will continue to cooperate in the field of records management with Indonesia and other New Southern countries."
