Outstanding Provincial Achievements in Eradicating Illegal Activities in Rivers and Valleys During 3 Years and 4 Months of Tenure
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, will resign from his gubernatorial position on the 26th to focus on next year's presidential election, after serving for 3 years and 4 months since his inauguration on July 1, 2018.
Lee has decided not to hold a separate farewell ceremony. Instead, before resigning, he will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. on the 25th to express his gratitude to the 13.8 million residents of the province and to communicate his resignation.
At 2 p.m., he will hold an expanded executive meeting to convey his appreciation to public officials who have trusted and followed his policies.
Earlier that day, around 1:20 p.m., Lee will visit the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters and Suwon Southern Fire Station to encourage the staff. At 3 p.m., he will visit the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, the counterpart of the provincial government.
Finally, at 4 p.m., Lee will visit related departments that have worked hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this visit, he plans to listen to various opinions through candid communication with public officials.
Meanwhile, Lee is evaluated to have achieved significant results in Gyeonggi Province's administration during his three years in office since 2018.
He restored clean rivers to residents by eradicating illegal activities in rivers and valleys, promoted policies respecting vulnerable workers such as delivery drivers and cleaning workers through public construction cost disclosure, strengthened investigations by the special judicial police unit, and prevented private monopolies by introducing the Baedal Teukgeup delivery service.
He also introduced and implemented the Gyeonggi local currency, attracted the Gyeonggi semiconductor cluster industrial complex, and confirmed the relocation of Gyeonggi Province's affiliated institutions to the northern region.
Additionally, his notable policies include ▲ implementation of free school meals for high schools ▲ payment of basic income to all youth (aged 24) in Gyeonggi Province ▲ preparation of basic social and basic loans ▲ implementation of Gyeonggi Province's ultra-low credit loans (up to 3 million KRW at 1.5% annual interest) ▲ support for free school uniforms for middle and high school freshmen (including alternative schools) ▲ expansion of university student loan interest support ▲ transportation cost support for youth (aged 13-23) within Gyeonggi Province ▲ payment of youth interview allowances ▲ postpartum care cost support (applicable to all childbirth families in Gyeonggi Province) ▲ expansion of emergency welfare projects for families in crisis ▲ implementation of the Gyeonggi-type quasi-public 'route bidding system' ▲ implementation of the 'post-construction sale system' for apartments supplied by Gyeonggi Province ▲ and the public development profit return system to residents.
