Will Samsung's 'Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra' Feature a Notch?

Will Samsung's 'Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra' Feature a Notch? Samsung 'Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra' Expected Image

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Rendered images of Samsung Electronics' next-generation tablet PC, the 'Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra,' expected to be released early next year, have been revealed, drawing attention due to the inclusion of a notch.

On the 24th (local time), IT specialist media 91mobiles cited famous IT tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) to unveil the anticipated images of the Tab S8 Ultra.

According to the released images, the notch around the front camera area stands out. 91mobiles explained that the notch on the Tab S8 Ultra appears to be a functional design to accommodate the front camera rather than for biometric technologies like Apple's Face ID. It is said that the notch design was used to install the selfie camera while making the bezel thinner. The Tab S8 Ultra is expected to feature relatively thinner bezels compared to lower models by using BRS (Border Reduction Structure) technology.

However, since it seems only one front camera will be installed, there is also speculation that the device might retain the punch-hole design as before. The Tab S8 Ultra is expected to have an 8-megapixel front camera and dual rear cameras with 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors.

The Tab S8 series is expected to be released in three models: the 'Galaxy Tab S8,' 'Galaxy Tab S8 Plus (+),' and the Tab S8 Ultra. The previous 'Galaxy Tab S7' series consisted of two models: the base model and the Plus model. The newly added Ultra model is expected to target users who prefer large screens by applying a 14.6-inch large display. Its dimensions are expected to be 325.8 x 207.9 x 5.4mm, making it larger and slimmer than the 'Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.'

The Tab S8 Ultra is anticipated to be equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset as its application processor (AP), feature an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and support the S Pen. Memory is expected to include up to 12GB of RAM, storage options of 128GB and 512GB, and a battery capacity of 12,000mAh.

The Tab S8 will feature an 11-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, support the S Pen, and have a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The battery capacity is expected to be 8,000mAh. The Tab S8+ will have a 12.4-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and quad speakers. Its battery capacity is 10,090mAh. Both the Tab S8 and Tab S8+ are expected to come with 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB and 256GB, and all models in the series are expected to support 45-watt (W) fast charging.

The new tablet lineup is expected to be unveiled early next year alongside the flagship 'Galaxy S22' series, with prices starting at 829,000 KRW for the Tab S8, 1,149,000 KRW for the Tab S8+, and 1,469,000 KRW for the Tab S Ultra model.
