[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] As the spread of COVID-19 in South Korea shows no signs of slowing down, it is expected that around 1,200 new cases will be reported on the 25th.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments, a total of 1,128 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed nationwide from midnight to 9 p.m. on that day.
By region, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for 907 cases, with 458 in Seoul, 353 in Gyeonggi, and 96 in Incheon, making up 80.4% of the total.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 221 cases, representing 19.6%, including 37 in Chungbuk, 31 in Daegu, 27 in Chungnam, 24 in Busan, 23 in Jeonbuk, 20 in Gangwon, 16 each in Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam, 11 in Jeju, 5 in Jeonnam, 4 each in Ulsan and Daejeon, and 3 in Gwangju.
Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, new cases were reported in all areas except Sejong.
Since there is still time until midnight to finalize the count, the number of new cases announced as of 0:00 on the 25th is expected to increase to around 1,200. The previous day ended with a final count of 1,423 cases.
Major infection cases include a cluster of 29 people, including 24 residents at a nursing facility in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.
In a cluster infection at a market located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, additional confirmed cases were identified during contact tracing, raising the cumulative number of cases to 199.
At a daycare center in Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, a total of 20 people were confirmed positive, including 9 children, 8 family members, and 3 staff members.
