[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A male employee who lost consciousness after drinking water from a bottled water container at a company office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, has ultimately passed away.
According to the police on the 23rd, male employee A, who collapsed after drinking the bottled water and had been receiving treatment at the hospital, died in the intensive care unit around 6 p.m. on the sixth day of hospitalization. The police plan to determine A's exact cause of death through an autopsy. Previously, toxic substances were detected in A's blood.
On the 18th, at a company office in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, two people, including A and a female employee, drank water from a bottled water container on the desk and suddenly collapsed. The female employee regained consciousness, but A fell into a critical condition and had been receiving treatment.
The suspect, a colleague in his 30s named B, was found dead from poisoning at his home in Gwanak-gu on the 19th, the day after the incident, after being absent without leave.
At this company, on the 10th, another incident occurred where B and another employee who had previously lived together in company housing collapsed after drinking a beverage. The police suspect B's involvement in both incidents.
At B's residence, traces of fingerprint analysis were found, along with several poisons and evidence that he had searched for specific poison-related academic papers on his mobile phone.
Based on statements from some colleagues, the police are also investigating the possibility that Mr. Kang held grievances about personnel matters and committed the crime. However, they stated that the motive cannot be confirmed solely based on some testimonies and are keeping all possibilities open while conducting a multifaceted investigation.
