Crime committed 8 days after marriage registration... Including false report
Accomplice who aided crime during recidivism sentenced to 9 years in prison
[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] A court sentenced a woman in her 40s to eight years in prison for killing her husband by beating him after demanding the cancellation of their marriage while drinking, and then filing a false report.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch (Chief Judge Shin Gyosik) announced on the 23rd that it sentenced A (46) and B (51), who were charged with injury resulting in death, to eight and nine years in prison, respectively.
In the verdict, the court explained the sentencing by stating, "A's testimony is full of contradictions, and considering that she drank alcohol beside the collapsed victim and filed a false report, she is found guilty."
The court also pointed out that B, who surrendered but directly caused the death, "has a history of being sentenced to prison three times for violent crimes including robbery-murder, and committed the crime during the recidivism period."
Earlier, on April 30 around 10:30 p.m., A was drinking at home with her husband C (50) and B, whom C had met while living as a homeless person.
Suddenly, A shouted at C, demanding "Cancel the marriage registration," and violently beat him with fists and feet.
At that time, it had been less than ten days since the two had registered their marriage.
A stripped all of C's clothes off, poured water on his face, and continued assaulting him by stabbing his neck with an umbrella while saying, "Someone like you should die."
When the collapsed C tried to get up, A had B gag him with a short-sleeved T-shirt and a wire hanger.
When B pushed him, C hit his head against the wall, breaking his neck and collapsing to the floor. The two tied C's hands and feet with an electric blanket cord.
After B repeatedly said, "He is not breathing," A calmly drank alcohol beside her collapsed husband, saying, "He is just sleeping."
C was later taken to the hospital but ultimately died from head injuries.
The full details of the case emerged after B's surrender, but the two gave conflicting statements in court.
B, who admitted to the assault, testified, "I did not expect it to result in death."
However, A denied all charges, claiming, "I reported it after seeing my husband collapsed when I arrived home."
The first trial court did not accept either party's claims entirely. A has appealed the first trial verdict.
