[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] A shocking accident occurred in Hollywood where a crew member died after being shot by a prop gun fired by an actor during a film shoot.

According to the US media CNN on the 22nd (local time), actor Alec Baldwin caused a gun accident while filming the movie 'Rust' in New Mexico at around 1:50 PM on the 21st.

On that day, Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger of a prop gun on a ranch south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a live round, not a blank, was fired. As a result of the accident, Ukrainian-born cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot in the abdomen and died, and director Joel Souza sustained a shoulder injury.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office stated, "We are investigating all possibilities as to how a live round was fired from a prop gun." A prop gun refers to a firearm modified to fire blanks.

Local media reported that Alec Baldwin tearfully cooperated with the investigation. 'Rust' is a Western film set in 19th-century New Mexico, with Alec participating as both producer and lead actor.

Born in 1958, Alec Baldwin is a well-known Hollywood actor famous for films such as 'Miami Blues,' 'The Hunt for Red October,' 'The Departed,' and 'Mission: Impossible ? Rogue Nation.' He also parodied former US President Donald Trump on 'SNL.'
