Healthy Aging to 100 Years with Elderly Eye Disease Management

Suncheon-si Supports Cataract Surgery Costs for Low-Income Elderly

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 22nd that it will support the cost of eye surgery for low-income elderly people who are unable to receive medical benefits due to economic difficulties.

The support targets include basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, and single-parent families aged 60 or older. When selecting beneficiaries, medical expenses necessary for eye surgeries such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal diseases will be covered.

Applicants wishing to receive support can apply by visiting the Suncheon City Public Health Center with required documents such as a diagnosis or medical opinion and health insurance card.

However, it should be noted that medical examination and surgery costs incurred before the selection of beneficiaries will not be supported.

A city official stated, "We hope all citizens actively promote this so that no elderly person endures without treatment due to worries about surgery costs," and added, "We will continue to support medical expenses for eye diseases among the elderly due to rapid aging and strive to improve the quality of life in old age by preventing blindness progression so that they can see the world clearly in the era of healthy longevity."
