[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Jeonnam Muan-gun (Governor Kim San) announced on the 21st that 168 radial artificial reefs were deployed in the Tando sea area of Mangu-myeon on the 19th.
The Tando sea area where the reefs were deployed has a depth of 6 to 10 meters and is inhabited by clams, oysters, and gamtae (brown seaweed). In 2017, an artificial reef suitability survey classified this area as suitable for shellfish-type reefs.
The county has deployed a total of 588 artificial reefs, including 168 this year and 420 last year. The radial artificial reefs deployed this time are shellfish-type artificial reefs measuring 2.45×2.45×2.0 meters. With the formation of the reef complex, it is expected to contribute to the continuous increase of fishery resources by providing natural spawning grounds and shelters for fish and shellfish.
Governor Kim San stated, “We will strive to maintain the artificial reef fishing grounds so that their functions are not degraded by overfishing and discarded fishing gear, and actively conduct guidance activities to enable fishermen to autonomously manage fishery resources.”
