As of 3 p.m. on October 21, the first-dose vaccination rate in Gwangjin-gu was 82.5% (281,683 people), and the completion rate was 70.1%, with 239,308 people fully vaccinated out of the 341,543 eligible population.
This figure is higher than the national full vaccination rate of 67.4% and the Seoul city average of 68.3% as of midnight on the 21st.
To increase the vaccination rate, Gwangjin-gu set up vaccination centers at Jayang Gymnasium and Junggok Culture and Sports Center, and conducted “visiting vaccinations” at nursing facilities, facilities for the disabled, and elderly group homes.
According to government policy, the vaccination centers will cease operation at the end of October. In particular, ideas were gathered to increase the vaccination rate, and about 20 ideas, including the “Special Contest for Vaccine Encouragement Idea Bank” and the “Vaccine Temperature Tower,” were adopted and are currently being implemented.
The “Vaccine Temperature Tower” was installed on the traffic island at Jayang Intersection on the 20th to encourage residents’ interest and participation in vaccination and quarantine. An LED screen displays the status of first and second dose vaccinations in graphs and percentages (%).
Furthermore, to honor residents who completed vaccination, vaccination completion stickers and badges were distributed, and table signs indicating vaccination completion were provided to restaurants and cafes, among other efforts to increase the vaccination rate.
Kim Seongap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Thanks to the active participation of residents in vaccination, we have achieved a vaccination completion rate of 70%, enabling us to prepare for the transition to phased daily recovery. We will take lessons from overseas cases such as the UK and Singapore, where infection resurgences occurred after declaring With Corona, and work diligently to strengthen the quarantine system with vigilance.”
He added, “We ask residents to wear masks properly until the infection situation stabilizes and to actively utilize preemptive testing.”
